SPRING 2024 ELECTIONS

ARTICLE IV: THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
Section A: Titles


The following officers consist of the President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the last past President serving as Director Emeritus. Two (2) Directors–at–large shall be elected by the membership. The last president will serve as Director Emeritus. Additionally, each Cluster shall have a Representative, 1 Unit II Central Office Director, and 1 Director representing special schools and centers shall be appointed by a majority vote of the Executive Board.

Section B: Eligibility


All Officers and Directors shall be Active Members in good standing of the Association.

Section C: Terms of Office and Succession


Except as otherwise provided for herein, Officers and Directors-At-Large shall be elected by a majority of those present at a regular membership meeting (Article III § C) to be held on or about June 1 of each year.

● The President, 1st Vice-President, and one (1) Director-At-Large are elected and will serve two (2) year terms (odd-numbered fiscal years).
● The 2nd Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are elected and will serve two (2) year terms (even-numbered fiscal years).
● A retiring President who is not elected to any other office succeeds to the Executive Board office of Director Emeritus.
● Cluster Representatives shall be elected annually by the Executive Board with no limits to years elected or served.

Terms of Office begin July 1 of the year elected. The “year” is defined as the fiscal year, July – June 30.

Section D: Duties


President.
The president shall be the executive head of the Association and shall preside at all meetings of the membership and of the Executive Board. S/he shall appoint, except as herein provided, the chairperson of all committees except the nominating committee. S/he shall supervise the activities of the Association and represent directly or through a designee the Association at the Board of Education and in the community and perform all other duties commensurate with the office. The President shall direct that notice of all meetings to be given to the membership or the Executive Board as the case may be. Duties include: Scheduling and attending regular and general AEL meetings, regularly meeting with the Superintendent to discuss AEL concerns, creating and disseminating emails/reports as needed to the Executive Board and membership, providing information regarding important/necessary mailings, and assigning one of the Executive Board positions to complete tasks, work with the Publicity & Website Administrator to design/update information, compose and speak at Board of Education meetings and other fiscal meetings offered to support AEL/s position and funding, determine members of the fiscal year Negotiations team.

1st Vice-president. The 1st Vice-president shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or office vacancy of the President, attend regular and general AEL meetings, meet with the Superintendent with the President, attend/watch Board of Education meetings, report to the Executive Board based on Board of Education meetings, provide an article for the newsletter, create and provide 5-star information for the newsletter, and work with the AEL Finance Committee.

Directors. The At-large and Representative Directors shall represent all Unit II members as defined herein and who are not otherwise holding a named elected office on the Executive Board. The Directors-at-large shall perform such other further duties as assigned by the Executive Board, which includes: Attending regular and general AEL meetings, participating and/or chairing one of the organization’s committees (i.e., Nominations, Grievance/Employee Rights, etc.), attending/watch Board of Education meetings, provide an article for the newsletter, work with President to schedule and book important AEL events not limited to the Fall and Spring Socials.
